DEEPGROUND was originally a medical facility for injured SOLDIERs. This changed around the time Genesis was born and they began to focus on creating superhumans instead. ROSSO THE CRIMSON was the first genetically modified child to be born within its ranks, she was created using Genesis’ cells. NERO THE SABLE followed two years later and was made using Professor Grimiore Valentine’s research on Stagnant Mako. 

DEEPGROUND is controlled by the Restrictors, a “lost” division of SOLDIER that was sent down there. There was a rebellion between the Restrictors and another faction of SOLDIER who disagreed with the treatment of the experiments. It can be surmised that this happened after SHELKE RUI was brought to DeepGround as she recreated one of those that rebelled - USHER- and used him to manipulate the PC character.

By the time the game happens, DeepGround is a free for all killing spree where violence and brutality are encouraged and endorsed to prove strength. This either happened during Genesis’ teenage years or after his rebellion, it was marked when “G” became a figure of note.

All Tsviets are fitted with a chip implanted in their brainstem that forces them to obey the Restrictors. These are controlled by PATRICIA, the DG computer system.

WEISS THE IMMACULATE had no genetic modifications done in the womb - he instead displayed abilities far exceeding expectations and was then put on pure mako treatments. It is CURRENTLY UNKNOWN when Weiss was born, but given the lack of modification done to him it may have been while DeepGround was still a normal medical facility.

NERO, ROSSO and WEISS all have the Threat Ranking of SSS. This is a rank just for them. They are extremely dangerous and usually caged, drugged, and/or bound to prevent mass casualties. 

THE TSVIETS are DeepGround’s Elite warriors. To be a TSVIET is to be a cut above the rest. Normal TSVIETS are ranked as just that - they do not have a colored monikor attached to their name. Those with a color a marked as the only survivors of dangerous experiments and are the absolute elite. The only exception to this is SHELKE RUI who possesses the rare ability of SND. Shelke’s color is also not technically a color as she is the TRANSPARENT.

SHELKE RUI was kidnapped from her home due to her ability to use SND. She was experimented upon and it halted her growth. She was raised in DeepGround like the rest. She does not have a full color rankingrank as she is physically weaker than the rest and the experiments done on her were deemed as failures - however, the ability to SND is unique enough to merit the rank.

AZUL THE CERULEAN willingly went to DeepGround because he wanted to become stronger. This happens in Chapter 4 of BEFORE CRISIS.

Also apparently there was going to be a sequel that was going to answer stuff but the game kinda blew so nobody wanted to make that.
